The 2015 edition of the Pevsner guide to Suffolk East in the entry for East Bergholt says: "Immediately E of the churchyard, Churchgate House, roughcast with sash window, dates from c1500 and was probably a guildhall. The timber frame shows that the l. part was originally of three storeys, both its upper floors jettied."
